Esthetic concerns are one of the primary reasons for getting orthodontic treatment. When communicating with people, a nice smile goes a long way. It is a sign of self-confidence, genuineness, and sincerity. A study from 2016 showed that 70% of adults who received orthodontic treatment had significant increases in their self-esteem. (Nascimento et al. 2016) It is interesting to note that ideal dental esthetics, on average, are evaluated as superior with respect to intelligence and the likelihood of being hired. 2. Correct bite reduces dental trauma risk
One particular malocclusion is known to create a higher risk of traumatic injuries: Class II div 1 malocclusion. It is well known that the protruding upper incisors with inadequate lip coverage may create additional risk for traumatic injury to maxillary incisors. (Burden 1995) Therefore, children with such malocclusion should be treated as soon as the problem is observed.

Health and body care are considered quality-of-life issues. Patients who have had orthodontic treatment get more concerned about their oral hygiene. Also, it has been shown that patients are more satisfied with their faces and smile after orthodontic treatment.

Self-ligating brackets reduce the chair time quite a bit. However, please make sure all the self-ligating bracket clips are fully closed before dismissing the patient. It may especially be harder to engage the wire and close the clip in rotated teeth. Use the director in your kit to push the wire to the slot fully before closing the clip.
